Engravings Guide

Engravings are a form of endgame passive abilities granting you both positive and negative effects. Some of them are changing character skills which allows you to create very unique builds. They can be found on jewellery items as well as on stones of birth after reaching a certain gear score. Each engraving has three levels of power with five nodes in each. Engraving effects are stronger with each level of power achieved.

Are engravings mandatory?

Engraving bonuses are very commonly used in endgame. It is recommended to unlock at least lower levels of most beneficial ones but not having them won’t prevent you from progressing the game or performing any activities.

When should I start unlocking engraving bonuses ?

Some basic bonuses can be made without spending a lot of time or currency. It is recommended to choose them once you receive gear with engravings.

Getting the best possible engravings for your character is a time consuming and expensive process which requires some dose of luck.

Levels of engravings

Each engraving has three levels of power which are split into five nodes. To enable each level and receive additional bonuses (or negative effects) you have to reach a threshold of 5/10/15 nodes.

Third Level of power

Types of engravings

There are three main types of engravings:

Positive (Combat)- gives you a wide range of bonuses and can be used by all classes. Additionally some of them have a downside but those are usually compensated for by the upside. For example “Deal 20% more damage to raid bosses but take 20% more damage” or “Your critical strike damage is increased by 50% but some of attacks may deal 20% less damage”.

Positive (Class bound)- grant bonuses to certain classes but in many cases they are changing the whole structure of your build giving huge bonuses and flipping your playstyle by 180 degrees.

Negative – giving you a wide range of unwanted effects and an inseparable part of items. It is, however, possible to turn off their effects by properly rolling and setting up your gear.

Engraving sources

In Lost Ark there are three sources from which you can receive engraving stages.

Jewellery

Depending on gear score and rarity each jewellery item can provide you with
0-3 engravings which have 1-3 stages. On the highest gear score with three engravings, one of them is always negative, but has only one stage, and each positive one has 2 stages.

After opening character info you will see two empty slots under your weapon. Click one of these slots and the engraving window will open. You will be able to choose an engraving. At the beginning none of them will be available because they need to be unlocked by reading seal books. After reading first 20 green rarity books engraving will be unlocked adding 3 stages, after additional 20 blue rarity boks 3 additional stages will be added resulting in 6 total and after last 20 purple rarity books another 3 stages will be added resulting in 9 total stages. Same engraving cannot be picked in two slots.
